Olympic Rally around the Peloponnes
In the Olympic year of 2004 we offer, in the spirit of Pierre de Coubertin, a rally through the Corinth canal and around the Peloponnes.
The rally takes us through important and historic areas of Greece. At every stage you will encounter ancient culture. Trips to Delphi, Epidaurus, Mykene and Olympia are planned, time allowing.
The Olympic Rally starts from our base headquarters in Nidri (Levkas), goes through the Corinth canal to Hydra, Monemvassia and around the Peloponnes, then returning to Levkas (about 480 nautical miles).
The Peloponnes was originally a peninsula that has been man made into an island. Since 1893 the Corinth Canal has connected the Saronic Gulf with the gulf of Corinth, shortening the trip from the Adriatic and the Ionian to the Aegean sea by 320 kilometers (about 200 nautical miles). The Corinth Canal, at a length of 6,3 kilometers, passes between the Peloponnes and the landscape of Megaris. It is 23 meters wide and up to 8 meters deep. The canal was opened for traffic in 1893. Nowadays about 9,000 vessels pass through the canal every year. There are only a few bridges over the canal so the Peloponnes remains, at least for car drivers, a peninsula.
The flotilla is accompanied by at least two experienced skippers. As the trip is extremely demanding on sailors skills, you can gain new experience and improve your knowledge through working with various skippers.
Two more exclusive yachts are at our disposal - a Super Maramu (16m) built by Amel and a Skorpion 1200 built by Feltz (built of steel, 13,8m) Both yachts are equipped with large-scaled technics to sail around the world.
With Skorpios Charter you can either charter the whole yacht or a single bunk. On the two other boats, you may charter a bunk only.
The importance of Olympic Games is not the victory but to participate (Pierre de Coubertin), and in this sense we hope that many people will wish to participate and may we all have a successful and unforgettable Olympic Rally.
